Reconfiguration

Kansas Speedway is getting a major facelift. This will make it more appealing and improve the racing conditions. It is planned to begin work after the Spring 2012 NASCAR racing weekend and be completed by October's Sprint Cup Hollywood Casino 400. The project will involve paving and reconfiguring 1.5-mile track's surfaces. The Grand-Am Series will be supported by a road course that will run through the infield.

It was built in 2001 and featured constant 15-degree banking on the turns. Prior to the October 2012 event, however the track went through a massive overhaul. It was repaved on the track's original surface and added a new track infield. The track's geometry was changed, with variable banking that can be adjusted from 17 to 20 degrees during turns. Although drivers had mixed reactions, Kyle Busch was not happy with the new track surface. In three consecutive DNFs at the Kansas Speedway, Kyle Busch had trouble adapting to the track's new surface.
