Laguna Seca Records Revealed

tr motorsport

Laguna Seca boasts several lap records for car enthusiasts. These include Cameron Rogers' record of the fastest four-door car, Tesla Model S Plaid's Model S Plaid, and the Czinger 21C. But which car is the best? The Tesla Model S is the best car to break a Laguna Seca record. Let's take a look at these records and find out.

Cameron Rogers' lap record at Laguna Seca

The lap record for electric vehicles in Laguna Seca is broken by Tesla Model 3 Performance. The car raced through the track in near stealth mode and ran a lap of 1:37.5 seconds. It beat Cameron Rogers' lap record of 1:141.2, which was set in December 2018. Rodgers is the owner of the car, while Sasha Anis from Mountain Pass Performance drives it.

Rogers modified his car a bit after setting the new record. Rogers' modified Model 3 Performance from Mountain Pass Performance has a similar performance but is not "stock". His car was a big hit at the Global Attack event. He won first place in production GT category. It is unknown if the same modifications could be made to his Model S P100D.

Tesla's Model S Plaid's lap record at Laguna Seca

Laguna Seca's new lap record may have been broken by the Tesla Model S Plaid modified. The Porsche 911 GT2 RS clocked a lap time of 1:29.9 seconds. This car was built by Tesla tuner Unplugged Performance. It has new aero components, larger tires, stronger brakes, a stripped out interior, and wider tires. The vehicle also features three motors with a combined power output of 1020 horsepower.

The prototype was driven and raced by a driver who isn't known for his racing prowess. The car has been tuned by Unplugged Performance, and this particular vehicle is believed to be a Plaid+ or Dual Motor version of the car. In addition, a black Model S was also spotted at Laguna Seca. Tesla also makes a red production model of the Model S. Laguna Seca's unofficial lap records were set by the Model S red in 1:29.9.

Elon Musk's claim, that a Tesla Model S set Laguna Seca’s four-door lap records

Elon Musk said that he would release a video the next day if a Tesla Model S breaks Laguna Secs' four-door lap record. Many were surprised because Musk, the Tesla CEO, has never set a lap record. Musk didn't name the record-breaking Tesla, only that it was "very speedy". The Tesla CEO also promised to release a video of the race and post it if he breaks any records.

Musk's claim is not without merit. The first, it isn't clear how Tesla managed to break the record as it was not a factory vehicle. Tesla and most automakers don't bother searching for lap records at Laguna Seca for production cars. Also, the record attempts that do take place are almost always made by non-production cars. The record attempts by Tesla are quite different. However, the Model S was not competitive due to excessive battery heating.

Laguna Seca lap record for Czinger 21C

California-based hypercar maker Czinger 21C broke Laguna Seca Raceway's lap records to make a big leap towards the future. Joel Miller, the driver for the Czinger 21C beat the McLaren Senna's previous lap record by almost two seconds. Randy Pobst's McLaren Senna set the record for 1:27.62.

Czinger 21C (which was shown to the public in February 2020) was a redesigned Senna. It had two centrally mounted seats and huge butterfly doors. Geneva Motor Show was cancelled and the car wasn't shown for the first-time. Czinger hopes the public will finally be able to view the car. Czinger 21C does not have a production model, but is still expected to go for at least a few millions of dollars. The car is expected to sell for over $3 million, making it an exclusive offering.
