His car hit a retaining wall on the back stretch. Weatherly did not wear a harness or window net and his head was crushed. He died a few days later.

Leroy Kay

Two men died in an accident that occurred during a northern Nevada race. They were Leroy Kay of Yerington and David Richardson. David, who was only 20 years old and Leroy, 67, were close friends. The accident happened during an event for dwarf car, which is small cars powered by motorcycle engines. They can reach speeds of over 100 miles per hour.

Dr Jason Shannon conducted a post-mortem to determine that Richardson had suffered a number of soft and skeletal injuries. This included multiple lacerations, fractures to the spine and fractures in his leg. Richardson also sustained significant burns to a large part of his body.
