Chase Elliott, Byron's Hendrick Motorsports Teammate, finished ahead for the majority. Byron won Thursday night's Martinsville Truck Race. He is the first driver to win two consecutive events in the same season.

Chase Elliott won stage 2, the second NASCAR Cup Series event. He started from pole position at Martinsville Speedway. He led the most laps of any driver since Darrell Waltrip's 1980 victory. Despite losing the lead in the second stage, he remained within striking distance of teammate William Byron. Both drivers are arguably the class of the field, and though Elliott ultimately gave up the lead, he showed he still had the speed to challenge Byron for the win. Despite the recent pit roads mishaps involving Chase Elliott & Kyle Larson Logano is currently chasing Byron for second position in the nascar results. Logano was third at Lap 159. He was 1.8 seconds behind Byron. Byron was able to hold off Elliott and win the first Stage of the event. Blaney, Logano and Custer were behind the field. Logano, Custer and Blaney remained in the top five following Stage 2.

Ryan Blaney was able take over the lead after Byron led for 118 laps. The No. 22 driver pitted with five laps remaining and was unable to regain the lead. Chase Elliott took the lead again on Lap 321.

William Byron won the second race of the NASCAR season in Martinsville on Sunday, clinching his playoff berth in the process.
